If you can package it, crate it, and ship it, there is a thriving criminal enterprise who will steal it. In a 2010 report on freight transportation, the U.S. Dept. of Transportation reported that freight exports totaled $16 trillion worldwide. Since 2008 there has been a dramatic rise in rogue foreign agents seizing cargo as well as fraudulent In House services causing billions of dollars in loss. Stolen cargo is an under-reported and a crime that yields loses of $20-30 billion per year.However, the true measure is much higher as industries and businesses are reluctant to report thefts out of concern for their reputations or their insurance premiums. Thieves' methods vary, but the outcome is samea load of merchandise leaves Point-A never arriving at Point-B.
